Rob’s interest in law in general and immigration law in particular was sparked by his personal involvement in a difficult and complex immigration matter involving his life partner in 2001. As a result of his involvement in this matter Rob was motivated to study law. He left teaching and enrolled in law at UWS. He was awarded a distinction for his work in the Refugee and Immigration Law component of his LL.B.

Rob was admitted as a barrister and solicitor of the Supreme Court of NSW and became registered as a Migration Agent in 2008. Rob came to Phoenix Migration to complete the work experience component of his Graduate Diploma in Legal Practice during which he assisted Wendy. His work was much admired and he was asked to stay on at Phoenix Migration. He and Wendy are now business partners and together handle a wide range of immigration matters.

Rob has wide experience of different cultures, having lived in Europe and Asia, particularly Thailand, for extended periods. He’s a native speaker of English and he also speaks fluent French and basic Thai. Sponsoring his own partner has made him very aware of, and sensitive to, the stress that can be experience by visa applicants and has enhanced his ability to empathise and understand clients’ concerns.

His area of special interest in migration law is in same-sex partner (interdependency) applications and appeals, and applications in the General Skilled Migration stream.
